Day 7 - Tuesday

After the morning routine of check-ins, exercise, and time with their pups, the campers headed to VEG ER for Pets for a behind-the-scenes look at emergency veterinary medicine.

During their visit, the campers learned about triage, emergency care, and the important role veterinary professionals play in helping animals during medical emergencies.

They also explored VEG's unique open-concept facility, where families can remain with their pets throughout much of the treatment process.

The visit provided valuable insights into what happens during a veterinary emergency while helping the campers better understand the importance of preparation, compassionate care, and advocacy for animals when they need us most.

Next, the campers visited Rick's Dog Deli, where they learned about nutrition and the important role food plays in a dog's overall health and well-being.

The visit sparked conversations about how nutrition supports physical health, energy levels, and quality of life.

The campers also had the opportunity to explore different food options, treats, and ingredients while learning how thoughtful nutrition can be an important part of meeting a dog's individual needs.

The campers also had the opportunity to glove up and get hands-on experience mixing fresh food for dogs.

This interactive activity gave them a closer look at the ingredients that go into a balanced meal and the care that goes into preparing fresh food for pets.

By participating in the process themselves, the campers gained a deeper appreciation for the role nutrition plays in supporting a dog's health and well-being while learning about the effort that goes into providing quality care for the animals we love.

One of the highlights of the day was taking some of the dogs out on the pond for a kayaking adventure.

As they floated across the pond, the dogs were exposed to new sights, sounds, movements, and perspectives.

Experiences like these help build confidence and resilience by allowing dogs to safely explore novel situations while having the support of their handlers nearby.

The campers and dogs also spent time exploring the natural areas around the Doglando campus.

With water to splash through, tall grasses to investigate, and endless scents to discover, the dogs were able to engage in some of their most natural behaviors.

Activities like this provide opportunities for dogs to use their senses, make choices, solve problems, and explore the world at their own pace.

Watching the dogs confidently navigate the environment was a great reminder that enrichment often happens when we allow dogs the freedom to simply be dogs.

See you tomorrow!
